CEDAR
:: Thuja plicata

Cedar is quite impressive from the start. It responds quickly with good volume to a light attack and has good separation and definition. It is distinctly softer than any of the spruces and has the tendency to loose tonal integrity when overdriven. I have heard cedar guitars described as sounding like a babbling brook. Cedar produces an echo or a bounce that couples with the corresponding note to produce an incremental crescendo. Some players perceive this as noisy, others as magical. I am one of the latter.
